About UsEstablished in 1974, Focal Community Services is a not-for-profit, community organisation that works alongside our unique clients to enable a life of choice and independence.  Providing a wide range of services including support at home, community access, social and group activities, Focal is committed to creating endless opportunities for all.About the OpportunityTo achieve our objectives, we rely on the skills, expertise and time investment, generously provided by our board members.   A position on our board provides a fantastic opportunity for our members to support the organisation, contribute to the wider community and genuinely make a difference for the better.  Our board members are valued business and community leaders who provide strategic direction, oversight of management, and facilitate accountability of the organisation to its stakeholders.  They work to ensure the vision, mission and strategic direction of the organisation are aligned and ensure all governance standards are met. Key Responsibilities:Selection and performance evaluation of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Leadership Team (ELT);Providing advisory support to the CEO and ELT as required;Ensuring that resources are available to enable the organisation to fulfil its mission;Understanding the organisation’s financial affairs and ensuring fiduciary responsibilities are met;Setting the tone from the top in terms of Focal's culture, values and behavioursBuilding a competent board including evaluation of its own performance;Ensuring legal and ethical integrity at all times;Overall management of risks;Enhancing the organisation’s public standing.  The board should clearly articulate the organisation’s mission, accomplishments and goals to the public to garner support from the community;Preparing for and actively participating in board and committee meetings; andParticipating as an active and present member of the Focal community.What you can bring to FocalFocal is seeking board members who have a genuine commitment to the vision and values of our organisation and serving the needs of the local community. To ensure a broad depth of skills and experience exist within our board, it is necessary for members to possess the following:Previous experience at board level ideally in the not-for-profit sector with a working knowledge of director’s duties and responsibilities, corporate governance and statutory compliance;Experience in managing areas of major risk to an organisation and/or experience in managing finances & budget;A depth of experience and understanding, preferably at executive or board level in community care and service;The acumen and capacity to govern in a period of change and ambiguity;Effective communication skills to fully participate in Board discussion and decision making;AICD membership will be highly regarded; andKnowledge of NDIS Practice Standards and Aged Care Quality is highly regarded.CommitmentSuccessful applicants will be required to commit to a minimum of 12 meetings per year and approximately 6 to 10 voluntary hours per month.  As per industry requirements, applicants will need to obtain and maintain a current Working with Children Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, national police check and be fully vaccinated against COVID 19.The BenefitsIn addition to the positive contribution you will be making to the community, this position provides a platform for growing leadership capability, governance and strategic skills as you support the organisation to reach its’ full potential.At the current time, positions are voluntary.
